Project Spotlight: Beca House, Wynyard Quarter
A strong finish to a transformational project that’s set a new benchmark for workplace design.
The project
Beca’s new home, Te Paeroa o te Kawau, wraps up the $500M transformation of Auckland’s Wynyard Quarter with a workplace that’s all about people, place, and purpose. With a 6 Green Star rating and 5-Star NABERSNZ energy performance, it’s a standout example of what future-focused, sustainable design can look like in Aotearoa.
Designed to bring together over 1,800 team members as ‘One Beca’, the space spans three buildings linked by bridges and features New Zealand’s first sculptural timber staircases—reducing 42 tonnes of upfront carbon. Inside, lush greenery, warm materials, and collaborative zones create a welcoming, high-performing environment that reflects Beca’s values and vision.
The solution
To support both thermal and acoustic comfort in busy shared spaces, GreenStuf® Acoustic Absorption Blanket (AAB) was installed in wall and ceiling spaces. Made from 100% polyester, AAB helps reduce reverberated noise—making it easier for people to focus, connect, and feel at ease. It also contributes to thermal insulation, helping regulate indoor temperatures and creating a more comfortable environment year-round. It’s a smart, sustainable solution that fits right in with the project’s ambitious environmental goals.
The fitout also includes reused furniture, low-carbon materials, and timber framing, contributing to a 43% reduction in upfront carbon. With Platinum WELL Certification, the building puts wellbeing front and centre.
Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei played a key role in shaping the cultural narrative of the space, gifting the name Te Paeroa o te Kawau—a nod to the site’s history and the kawau (shag) that once frequented the shoreline. It’s a name that grounds the project in place and story, and a fitting name for a truly transformational build.
