Quintessentially Kiwi in our humble beginnings, Autex was founded in 1967 over a beer and a handshake at the Station Hotel pub. With hard work and a handful of Kiwi ingenuity, the modest four-man operation outgrew its cramped Grey Lynn factory to become a major player in New Zealand – eventually expanding into overseas markets. Despite the globalisation of the business, Autex remains a New Zealand owned and operated designer, and manufacturer, of acoustics and insulation products.
From the first punch of the needle in that small Grey Lynn factory, we have always valued integrity in quality and design. Manufacturing in two Auckland locations – Avondale and Hobsonville – allows us complete control over the design and construction of all products. This not only ensures a high level of quality but enables greater opportunities for customisation and bespoke design.
Autex Industries' first small factory in Grey Lynn.
Auckland’s manufacturing and design hub
Production of our interior acoustic products, wallcoverings, felts, and specialty finishing takes place at our Avondale factory. As our global design office and manufacturing facilities are on the same site, our design team is able to liaise with our manufacturing teams on custom jobs – guaranteeing high-quality work every time.
Sustainable products and practices
Our Hobsonville factory – home of GreenStuf® – opened in June 2019. This expansion enabled an increase in manufacturing capabilities, supporting overall business growth.
With sustainability at the forefront of our design practice, the Hobsonville factory project was the perfect opportunity to design, and build, and environmentally conscious manufacturing plant. This is one of the key benefits of manufacturing in New Zealand; we have control over the sustainability of our processes – from the materials used, to the energy consumption of the building. Complete with a zero-waste manufacturing line, solar panels, and EV charging stations, the Hobsonville factory is designed to produce an environmentally friendly product through environmentally friendly practices.
Proudly made in New Zealand
Alongside quality and design control, manufacturing in Auckland creates jobs and opportunities for New Zealanders and local suppliers – supporting the New Zealand economy and the wider community. As Autex is a Kiwi, family-owned company, this local community focus is extremely important.
Local Community
Autex is proud to hold the NZ Made certification for both our insulation and interior acoustics products. We value our position as a New Zealand owned and operated company; able to create quality interior products, with a touch of Kiwi ingenuity, that give back to our local community.
